Malaysian Badminton & Betting Culture – A Complete Guide for Fans
Malaysia and badminton — two words that are inseparable. From the Sidek Brothers who shook the world in the 1980s and 1990s, to Lee Chong Wei's two decades of national pride, badminton has carved out a special place in the heart of every Malaysian. It comes as no surprise that badminton betting ranks among the most popular on platforms like taruhan77.
The New Generation of Malaysian Badminton Stars
When Lee Chong Wei retired in 2019, many were concerned about the future of Malaysian badminton. Those fears, however, proved unfounded. Lee Zii Jia emerged with an impressive style of play — aggressive, bold, and technically exciting for fans. Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, meanwhile, established themselves as a world-class men's doubles pair with a string of victories on the BWF circuit.
On the women's side, the pairing of Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan has been writing their own chapter in history. Not only have they overcome world-class pairs, they have become an inspiration to young Malaysians — proof that reaching world number one is an achievable dream. For fans who follow their journey closely, betting on their matches at taruhan77 has become another way to show support while having a chance at a return.
Understanding Badminton Match Formats for Smarter Betting
One advantage Malaysian badminton fans bring to betting is their deep knowledge of the sport itself. Badminton is played in a best-of-three format, with each set going up to 21 points and a minimum 2-point winning margin required. If the score reaches 29-29, the set goes to whichever player or pair reaches 30 points first.
This format gives the weaker player a real chance to fight back, and that's exactly what makes in-play betting at taruhan77 is incredibly exciting. A player can be trailing 5-15 in a set and still come back to win it with consistent rallying. If you're watching live and spot a shift in momentum, you can bet on in-play markets at more attractive odds than pre-match prices.
BWF World Tour – The Tournament Hierarchy You Need to Know
The BWF (Badminton World Federation) organises tournaments across multiple tiers, each with different prize values and prestige. At the top sits the Super 1000 tier, which includes the Malaysia Open, Indonesia Open, All England, China Open, and several others — each carrying prize money exceeding USD 1 million. Below that are the Super 750, Super 500, Super 300, and further lower-tier events.
Taruhan77 provides full coverage across all stages of the BWF World Tour. Whether you want to bet on a Super 1000 event featuring the world's top-ranked players, or a smaller Super 300 tournament where rising champions are building their names — it is all available on a single platform.
Thomas Cup – The Pride of Malaysian Team Badminton
The Thomas Cup is the most prestigious men's team badminton championship in the world, and Malaysia is one of its traditional powerhouses with an enviable trophy record. Every two years when the Thomas Cup comes around, Malaysian national pride burns bright. The entire country unites behind the national team as they compete in the nation's name.
At taruhan77, the Thomas Cup receives exceptionally broad market coverage. You can bet not only on the overall tournament winner, but also on dedicated markets for every doubles match — including the outcome of each individual rubber within every tie between two nations. This level of betting depth is something you simply won't find on most other platforms.
